Black Rock Hot Springs Tour. We'll visit at least three and maybe more hot springs in the Black Rock NCA. Learn where they are so you can revisit at your leisure! The weather is starting to cool off and there will be few visitors. We'll also check out the Burning Man site and their clean-up efforts. Learn about this National Conservation Area. Snow Valley Peak. Hike from Spooner Summit off Hwy. 50 to Snow Valley Peak. About 12 miles RT and 2,000 feet of gain. Fast-paced outing. Donner Peak and Mt. Judah Roller Pass. This 8 mile loop-hike will first take us to that "window to the east" at Donner Peak's modest 8,000 ft. summit. Then we'll go on over the nearby Mt. Judah for unrestricted vistas. Dropping down to historic Roller Pass we'll return rapidly on the Pacific Crest Trail. Total gain of 1,200 feet and 8 miles RT. DOK. 101 Mile Hiking Party! Let's celebrate another great year of trips with the Great Basin Group. Bring your card to show off your totals, even if you didn't quite make it, or perhaps you just were a late starter (It's okay, we all began sometime). Photos of our outings would be greatly appreciated. We'll supply the main course, all the cuttlery, and water. Please bring an appetizer, salad, or dessert and BYOB. Snow Valley Peak Dayhike. All day hike up North Canyon from Spooner Lake, up towards Marlette Lake, but with a right turn up the ridge to bag Snow Valley Peak at 9,214 feet. We will be strolling up the new trail through aspen-filled glens and expect to see great fall colors, plus fantastic views of Lake Tahoe. Toiyabe Crest Through Hike. This is a multi-day backpack of 65 miles on the Toiyabe Crest National Recreation Trail, for experienced backpackers only. Join Friends of Nevada Wilderness, the GBG, and the Austin/Tonopah Ranger District's Wilderness Ranger to experience a lot of the work that FNW has completed over the summer. This rugged and wild place is the ultimate Nevada hiking experience. Learn about land management and resources on the Humboldt-Toiyabe. To minimize impact a trip limit of 6. Under Mt. Houghton's Shadow. We'll cross the Mt. Rose Meadow, then climb the small canyon to reach the Mt. Rose trail junction at 9,600 feet. Buckland Station south of Silver Springs Dayhike. This nearly 12 mile RT loop hike on flat ground will start at historic Buckland Station and proceed downstream along the Carson River enjoying riparian habitat and fall leaves. Return will be on a segment of the Pony Express Trail route. Learn some history of the area. Option to tour the remains of Fort Churchill on your own after the hike. ND. Freel Peak Dayhike. Join us on this fabulous trek that offers spectacular vistas of Tahoe and Carson Valley. Fall colors should still be nice. Learn about some of the flora or fauna. Hike is 10-12 miles RT with over 2,500 feet of gain. We would like to take the non-traditional off-trail route to return which involves scree (fun to ski). Good knees a must. DOK. Nevada Day Hike. Come celebrate our state holiday with the traditional peak bag of our local landmark, Peavine Mountain at 8,300. We will find a novel route up the backside. Trip will be about 10 miles RT with 3,300 feet of gain. Expect to learn a lot about the diverse habitats we will be climbing through, and if we are lucky, see some migrating mule deer. DL. Dayton to Silver City Dayhike. We'll visit the Rock Point Mill site and then head out to find the support sites for the aerial buckets that brought ore to the mill from Silver City. Then we will follow the old wagon road up to the outskirts of Silver City where we find a lovely spot under the pinon pines for lunch. Those who wish to take a strenuous climb up to the ridge line with T A and return will be available. Otherwise trip is 6 miles RT and 800 feet of gain. ND.
