Stanislaus Peak Dayhike. Trek along the crest of the central Sierra, just north of Sonora Pass. Most of the route is above 10,000 feet on existing trail, but the final summit ascent is cross-country over rocky terrain. Learn about the volcanic geology of the Sonoran Pass area. Great vistas. Round Top Wildflower Dayhike. Round Top is one of my favorites near the close of the flower season since we may still find masses of yellow and pink pouring off the mountain side. For those of you who are wanting a strenuous hike we will go to the top of the peak at 10,300 feet--what a view! Trip is about 8 miles and up to 2,000+ gain. Learn about flora. Tahoe Meadows-South on TRT Dayhike. Starting at the lush Tahoe Meadows south trailhead, we'll follow the famous TRT southward for several miles. As we hike through the forests, we'll take advantage of several slightly off-trail viewpoints over beautiful Lake Tahoe, lunching at one of them. Trip is about 9 miles RT, 600 feet elevation gain. Gourmet Dayhike to Lola Montez. This outing is geared for sharing gourmet food in a pristine Sierra setting. Participants bring a dish to share. This is a great lake for swimming and relaxing. Chocolate Peak Dayhike. Climb to the top of Chocolate Peak from Galena Creek County Park via Church's Pond, and halfway up the eastern slopes of Mt. Rose. We will also visit Contact Pass and points beyond. Trip is about 8-10 miles RT, very steep with 3,500 feet of gain on rocky terrain. Red Lake and Steven's Peak. Scale two peaks over 10,000 feet in elevation on a day hike in the Carson Pass area. Learn some history of the area. Granite Palisade near Tamarack Peak. A surprising little spur-hike just off the flowered TRT only 30 minutes from the route 431 summit. Hiking near 9,000 feet elevation, vistas come quickly on this outing. We'll lunch on an interesting 1/2 mile of ridgeline of bouldered white granite, located 300 feet above the forested valley below us. Trip is about 4 miles RT and 400 feet of elevation gain. DL. Five Lakes Dayhike. In Carson Pass area hike to Five Lakes and two snow banks (if we are lucky). Traverse from the ranger station to Frog, Winnemucca, Round Top, Emigrant, and Caples Lakes. This is about a 12 mile one-way hike with a vehicle shuttle. Elevation gain of 1,500 feet with some cross-country boulder scrambling. Learn about the history of the emigrant wagon trail in this area. Grouse Ridge Dayhike. Slow-paced 4 mile RT to Island Lake in the Grouse Ridge area. This will be a family hike. We will spend time at Island Lake to swim, eat, nap, ect... Perseid Meteor Shower on the Playa Carcamp. We'll be camping in mid-playa and watching the awesome display of meteors across the desert skies! Expect great stars and likely large telescopes to view. Mt. Dana and Saddlebag Lake Loop Carcamp. On Saturday we plan to scale Mt. Dana, Yosemite's second highest peak. This outing will be 6.25 miles RT and has 3,200 feet of gain. In other words, strenuous. The views are incredible from this lofty vantage point. Learn about some rare flowers that grace the peak. On Sunday, we will hike the loop in the Twenty Lakes Basin from Saddlebag Lake. This trip is only a five mile loop, but has exceptional views. We will take the water taxi across Saddlebag, the roundtrip cost is $9 per person. Plan on leaving after work on Friday by 5:30 PM to make camp that evening. We will split the cost of the campsites. Paradise and Devil's Oven Lakes Dayhike. We'll seek salvation first at Paradise Lake and then descend to Devil's Oven Lake for our punishment. This hike skirts Castle and Basin Peaks to see three beautiful Sierra Lakes (including Warren Lake). View glacial polish on granite faces.
