Donations For Outings -Thanks for All Your Contributions!

The Great Basin Group's Outing Leaders are collecting $1 donations from all members on outings ($2 for non-members). These contributions will greatly help to enhance our Outings Program by providing leaders with more training opportunities, provide new first aid kits to all leaders, and help offset the cost of our bi-monthly Outings Meetings. Any extra funds may be used to help finance the cost of our Program Meetings at Bartley Ranch.
Our Outings Leaders provide a variety of outings in our effort to meet the needs our membership. They are all volunteers who endeavor to share their love and knowledge of the outdoors in the amazing country around us. Your donations will provide essential support to the Great Basin Group's Outing Program and will be greatly appreciated.

February 02 (Saturday)
Lahontan Petroglyphs Day Hike. Visit the rock panels on the shores of Lake Lahontan near Silver Springs. Learn some history of the area. High clearance / four wheel drive vehicles recommended, or ride
share. 4 miles R/T, no significant elevation gain. ND. Leaders T A Taro 775 530-2935, Donna Inversin 775-315-6763. Leisurely.

February 9 (Saturday)
Snowshoe Sagehen Creek. Our trip will wind along the snowy banks of Sagehen Creek to the backside of Stampede Lake. Learn about some of the flora and fauna that we will observe. Outing will be approximately 6 miles in length with a possible elevation gain of 800 feet (depending on amount of snow and weather conditions). Trip limit 15. DOK. February 16 (Saturday)
Rock Point Mill in Dayton to near Silver City Day Hike. Some off trail, tracing portions of the route of the circa 1910 aerial cableway which transported ore from the Comstock to the mill at Rock Point in Dayton. Two hikes may be offered, one slower-paced of about 5 miles with 800 feet of gain and one faster of about 7 miles and over 1,000 feet of gain. Learn about some of the mining history of the area. N D. February 16-18 (Saturday-Monday)
Warm-Up in Winter Death Valley Carcamp. Spend President's Day weekend in Death Valley. A couple of short hikes, plus the usual "tourist stuff", including a possible tour of the Lower Vine Canyon Ranch, Scotty's "real" house. Learn about this unique environment through David's personal experience and knowledge. Expect to share carpool costs, entry fees, and camping costs. Possible side trip to the Amargosa Opera House. Must sign up by 2/10/08. Trip limit 12. ND. Leader: David Book (843-6443). Easy/Moderate.

February 25 (Monday) 5:30 - 8:00 PM
Outings Meeting. All members please join us to plan outings for April and May. A special invite is extended to anyone interested in learning about the Sierra Club or becoming an Outings Leader. Write-ups for outings are due by Wednesday, February 27th. It’s Italian night at Shanel’s home. . Bring a potluck dish to compliment our Italian theme. Beverages provided.
