Holly's Last Wednesday Conditioning Hike. Brisk hike 5:30-7:30 PM in the hills surrounding the Truckee Meadows. Call between 9:00 AM and 8:00 PM for hike details on phone starting Monday. Hike will be about 3-4 miles with possible 1,000 ft. elevation gain. Learn about areas in need of protection. Meet for dinner somewhere nearby afterward to wrap up this year's conditioning hikes. Keystone Canyon Volunteer Trail Work Days. Help finish the new hiking and mountain biking trail between Keystone Canyon and Evans Canyon in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. Time: 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM; Location: East Keystone Canyon trailhead north end of Keystone - off Leadership Pkwy north of McCarran. Bring: Heavy work gloves and boots, sunscreen, pack. Hot Springs tour & carcamp. Includes a visit to the famous and private Fly Geyser. Other hot springs will include Soldier Meadows Hot Springs and probably Double Hot and Black Rock Hot Springs. Bring own food, water etc. Near-dark skies will mean good stars, October means cooler weather. Learn about the Black Rock Region! Limit 15, DL, carpooling if possible, LNT, Easy. Castle Peak by Grubb Hut. We'll visit this famous triple peak
using a trail to the Sierra Club's Peter Grubb Ski Hut. North of
Donner Pass where mid- altitude Sierra peaks prevail, we'll reach 9103 ft. At
one point our trail goes near top of a sheer rock cliff. Great vistas. Learn
about flora and fauna. Total ascent 2000 ft. Roundtrip 12 miles. Call

Kings Canyon near Carson City to Spooner Summit day hike.
About 2,000 ft gain and nine miles uphill on the old stage route. Examine traces
of the lumber rail line at the summit. Vehicle shuttle will be necessary. Learn
some history of the area and enjoy some views. Possible Fall leaves. ND. Leaders:

GB Group general meeting. What’s new at Lake Tahoe? Lilly Galli of the League to Save Lake Tahoe will take us through a colorful presentation of the beauties of Lake Tahoe, current and ongoing threats and what the League is doing to preserve the pristine beauty of this world treasure. Despite the fact that the clarity of Lake Tahoe’s water has substantially declined in the past several years many lakefront property owners still think it is their inalienable right to build new piers which will further impact the lake’s purity. Come and enjoy the beauty of the lake while learning what you can do to support the League’s preservation efforts. Location: Bartley Ranch (South on Lakeside Dr., just before Windy Hill). Spooner Summit on Hwy 50 -Marlette Lake-Snow Valley Peak Loop. Day hike from Spooner Summit , then by Spooner Lake, then to Marlette Lake and to Snow Valley Peak for lunch. There should be a Fall leaf display. Return on a portion of the Tahoe Rim Trail. About 12 miles and strenuous. Learn some history of the area. ND. Beginnings of Reno-to-Rim Trail. We'll explore beginnings of the forthcoming 18-mile Reno-to-Rim trail route. By climbing part way up the Mt Rose trail itself, we'll connect to the R-to-R arrival from Relay Peak. We'll then go off-trail to get a better idea of the "moonscape" which the R-to-R will traverse. Penultimate Evening Conditioning Hike. Short but brisk hike off into what remains of the waning twilight in the Reno-Sparks foothills. 1-2 miles, 500 feet elevation gain. Duane Bliss Peak (8658') Day hike to bag this medium-sized peak off the beaten path, and overlooking Carson City. We'll hike south from Spooner Summit along the TRT for the approach, and the final mile will be a 900' ascent cross-country over granitic terrain. Great vistas, and lots of trees. Half Day Hike. Here's a hike for the person who wants to get out for fresh air and exercise, but not spend the whole day on the trail. Meet 10:00 AM. Plan on a 5-6 mile hike somewhere near the Truckee Meadows. Elevation could be up to 1,000+. Weather should be crisp and clear, and will determine our destination. Learn about the flora in our area. Outings Meeting. All members are welcome to join us as we meet to plan outings for December and January. Learn what the requirements are to become a valued Sierra Club Outings Leader. Bring a potluck dish to share. All beverages provided. We are meeting at the home of Craig Mastos. Craig lives on Wright St. which runs parallel to Arlington Ave., just to the east. His home is between Pueblo (one block north of Mt. Rose) and Arroyo (four blocks south of La Rue). It is near the Mt. Rose School. Buckland Station south of Silver Springs Day hike. This moderate 8 mile loop day hike on flat ground will start at historic Buckland Station, proceed downstream along the Carson River enjoying the riparian habitat, and fall leaves. Return on segment of the Pony Express Trail route. Learn some history of the area. Option to tour the remains of Fort Churchill on your own after the hike. Learn some history of the area. Genoa Peak Day hike. We'll hike Sierra Canyon near Genoa up to Genoa Peak. About 8 mi. RT and 4000' elevation gain. Should catch the end of the fall aspen color.
