Tule Peak Day Hike. Join us for a steep climb to the highest peak of the Virginia Mountains. Up to 12 miles round trip and 3500 feet elevation gain. Ralston Peak 9,235. This hike starts at Echo Lakes and will be about 8 miles and at least 3,200 feet of gain. We will follow the ridge and hike up and down the many peaks. Return on the PCT. Petersen Mountain Day hike. This is a wonderful range north of Reno that overlooks the vast landscape toward Sierra Valley and Eastern Nevada. Learn about some of the wildflowers that often profusely bloom in some of the quaint valleys along the ridge. Participants must be in good physical shape as this hike is about 10 miles in length and has almost 2000 feet elevation gain. DOK. Humbug Day Hike. Hike along Humbug Creek from North Bloomfield to South Yuba River during Malakoff Diggins Homecoming Day. About 6 miles round trip and 1000 feet elevation gain. Learn about the hydraulic mining of the nineteenth century. The light winter should mean relatively low water level in the river, providing great swimming opportunities. ND. Hunter Creek Falls. Join me on a moderate hike up nearby Hunter Creek Canyon. We will hike to the falls, about 7-8 miles round trip and up to 1,000 ft. elevation gain. Plan on meeting at 10:00 at the trail head. Hike will be about 4-5 hours. Bring water, must have trail shoes (no tennis shoes), lunch, and leash for dogs (just in case). The trail is very narrow in places. Participants should be in fit hiking shape as this is NOT an all day trip. To get there take I-80 West to the McCarran turnoff and then go left. Turn Right at Mayberry and follow to Plateau Rd. Make a left on Plateau. Stay on Plateau all the way to Woodchuck and make a right. Follow Woodchuck all the way to the parking area at the end (about 1/2 mile from where you turned). This is very last minute, but should be a nice trip. Call for questions only. DOK. Prosser Lake Weekend Car Camp. Join us for a fabulous weekend of kayaking and mountain bike riding. Prosser Lake is located near Truckee, CA. We plan to car camp near the lake and enjoy paddling along the shoreline. We will take time to view and identify the many species of water fowl that line the lake. Our mountain biking will be a moderate ride not too far from where we camp. Glen is great at sighting birds, so we might see some unusual ones. Plan on a potluck of salads or desserts and bring your own meat to BBQ. Hopefully some star-gazing too. Trip Limit 12. Call one week ahead to reserve space. DL. Tamarack Peak from Waterfall. We’ll follow the new Mt. Rose trail to rock waterfall. Then we’ll climb off-trail to rock outcrop at about 9600 feet for lunch before rising to the 9900 feet summit. Return off-trail. Great views of Lake Tahoe and Mt. Rose, Relay Peak, and Slide Mtn. About 6 to 7 miles roundtrip with 1000 feet ascent. Learn about the local flora and fauna. DOK. Longest Day Eve Hike. We will take advantage of the latest sunset and longest twilight of the year with a hike to the top of “Road to nowhere” Hill, 6070 feet, in the Virginia Range on the SE side of Reno.
