Leader's Choice Snowshoe. We will take a moderate snowshoe to a destination with good snow conditions. Learn the important basics to always carry when heading out into the wilderness when snowshoeing. This trip is for participants with some previous experience. GB Group general meeting. “RENO: Now and Then,” Neal Cobb presents an entertaining, informative and humorous look at Reno today and, through the use of old maps, pictures and historical stories, what various places around the city were like in days gone by. Neal is passionate about this area as evidenced by his work with Voices for Truckee Meadows. But there is one caution, if you talk to Neal about theUniversity of Nevada, don’t ever let him hear you refer to it as “UNR.” Location: Bartley Ranch (South on Lakeside Dr., just before Windy Hill). Beginner's Snowshoe. Leader's Choice for destination depending upon weather. Possible snowshoe to Chickadee Hill or Sagehen Creek. Snowshoe will be about 4-5 miles with less than 500 feet of elevation. Will teach basic snowshoeing techniques. Call leaders for details on equipment and basic supplies needed. Trip limit 12. DL. Sagehen Hills Cross Country Ski. We will ski over rolling hills to the best lunch spot north of Lake Tahoe. From that sight there is easy to moderate down hills to play on or practice your tele turns. If there is time we may continue on to an overview of Carpenter Valley or ski back down. Snowshoe Rock Outcrop past Tamarack Peak. Spectacular views of Lake Tahoe, Mt. Rose, Truckee Meadows from this outcrop. Will select either southerly forest route around the peak or the over-the-top route at the start of the snowshoe. About 6 miles RT with 700-1,000 ft. of gain depending on route. Snowshoes only as this is off-trail. Learn about the surrounding alpine terrain. ND. Leader: Gary Hanneman (425-3742). Moderate.

Beginner Backcountry Snow Camp at Loon Lake. Pack into Loon Lake and learn about winter camping, navigation, shelters, avalanche awareness, and staying warm, dry and hydrated.
