Mount Rose Waterfall Dayhike. A moderate winter hike to the little-known waterfall on the trail to the Mount Rose Summit. Hike is about four miles RT with 500 foot elevation gain. Eat lunch at the falls. Learn/practice map and compass skills en route, if desired. Early return by mid-afternoon. Bad weather or heavy snow will cancel or change location! This is a hike, not a snowshoe trip. No cotton clothing. Start time approximately 9:00 - 2:00. Trip limit 15. DL. Leader: David (843-6443). Moderately easy.

The John C Two Enigma Hike near Dayton. Discover some history of the area as we visit two features possibly associated with old mining operations. One-way hike of about seven miles with a vehicle shuttle. Elevation gain of about 1,000 feet for the day. Scenic views. Return paralleling part of the Carson River. ND. Virginia Mountains Dayhike. Join me on a hike to one of my favorite places. Unusual rock formations, weathered caves to explore, and beautiful vistas of desert scenery. Learn about our efforts to protect this scenic area from future impacts of planned development in the Winnemucca Ranch area. Condition Your Mind – Learn Map and Compass. An easy class and short local walk for anyone who needs to learn, practice, or brush up on map and compass skills. Beginner/brush-up level class for those who want to start on their own or just learn how it's done. Map and compass is the foundation of all outdoor activities! About half a day, some instruction first and then an hands-on, practical demonstration. Possible pizza afterwards. Start time approximately 9:00 - 12:00. Trip

Great Basin Group Annual Holiday Party. Join us in celebrating another terrific year of outings, service trips, programs, and conservation activities. The party will begin around 6:30 PM for socializing and dinner at 7:00. Please bring a potluck item to share, BYOB. The Group will provide all plates, utensils, napkins, and water. A short awards celebration and entertaining film will be shown. The party will be held at Horseman's Park. Take McCarren West to Skyline Dr., go east on Skyline down the hill, just past the fire station, and make a right on Pioneer. Horseman's Park is on the right. Large parking area in front of building. Churchill Butte, near Silver Springs. First day of winter; now the days lengthen, and we will celebrate by scaling the butte, overlooking historic Ft Churchill, and portions of the emigrant wagon route, ancient and modern Lake Lahontan, the Pony Express Trail and the Lincoln Hwy. Learn some history of the area. Day hike of about seven miles with about 2,700 feet of gain for the day. Portions of hike are off trail with steep descents. ND. Cottonwood Canyon Dayhike. This moderately easy hike is a nice winter excursion north of Spanish Springs Peak outside of Sparks. We'll observe how the high desert environment beds down for winter as we hike to the overlook Cottonwood Canyon. Roughly 5 miles RT and possible 1,000 foot elevation gain, but all off-trail.
