Further information:
The Walker Lake Summit Tour occured April 2-3, 2002 and helped frame the science and issues surrounding the imminent collapse of the ecosystem of the desert lake located in the western Nevada desert. Fed primarily from the waters of the Walker River, Walker Lake has lost nearly 140 feet of from its surface elevation since the early part of the 20th century when more and more water began being diverted from the Walker River for agriculture in Bridgeport and Antelope Valleys in California and Smith and Mason Valleys in Nevada.
